Calais Campbell – Guest Speaker at DMAB T.A.P. Program Session
On Monday, February 25th Calais Campbell, Defensive End for the Jacksonville Jaguars and 2019 Athletes in Action/Bart Star Award winner, spoke to our Teen Ambassador for Peace (T.A.P) and “SafetyNet” students at the DMAB Community Art Center.
Calais was a great choice to tackle the discussions on how to be an “ambassador for peace” and he shared who his “SafetyNets” were during his childhood. During the session, Calais shared so many inspirational nuggets for example;
- He challenged the students to take the positive role and not the negative when they are in “peer pressure” situations. You can use “Positive Peer Pressure” to challenge your friends to do the right thing.
- Wipe the slate clean every day because you get an opportunity to learn from your mistakes and try it again!
Each student was given a card provided by DMAB with pictures of Calais for him to autograph. As he signed each card, he took the time to encourage each student letting them know “you can achieve your dreams with hard work”. We also presented Calais with a cake made by one of our parents who owns “Sonya Sweets” which had the picture of the poster created for the event. He absolutely loved it! The students were also treated to a pizza dinner provide by Andrew and Jen Hayman. Finally, a special thanks to his wife, Rocio Campbell for her support of the Don’t Miss a Beat organization.
