DMAB “Art in the Park” An Evening with August Wilson
Our March Art in the Park series, “An Evening with August Wilson” directed by award winning director Keith Johnston was an amazing experience for both the cast and the audience. We presented select scenes from some of August Wilson’s most notable plays:
- Gem of the Ocean
- Joe Turner’s Come and Gone
- Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
- The Piano Lesson
- Seven Guitars
- Two Trains Running
- King Headley
- Radio Golf
Keith Johnston, director, coached the cast members, which included the Don’t Miss a Beat All Stars and students enrolled in our after-school program. First were the auditions which were conducted by artistic director, Ulysses Owens, Jr. along with the DMAB team. Each audition was videotaped and sent to Keith who selected the cast. The cast members selected were from ages 8 to 16 years old and they did an outstanding job. Each participant received a Certificate of Achievement in Theatrical Production. The cast members were thrilled to receive a certificate presented and signed by Ulysses Owens, Jr. and Keith Johnston.
Thanks again to PNC for awarding DMAB the “PNC Arts Alive” grant, which has allowed the Don’t Miss a Beat organization to bring professional artistic events to the Woodstock community. Please enjoy the pictures taken by, Toni Smailagic, photographer.
