Who are we helping?
DMAB serves 300+ families (and parents) each year with many coming from local schools where more than 75% of students qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch. These schools include Central Riverside, Fishweir, S.P. Livingston, Thomas Jefferson, and Annie R. Morgan Elementary schools; Paxon, Eugene Butler (YWLA, YMLA) middle schools; Lavilla and Douglas Anderson School of the Arts.
We also serve individuals through the Neighborhood Association of the Brooklyn and Woodstock communities, where approximately 90% of the residents live well below the national poverty level. Additionally, DMAB works with local schools as well as colleges and universities for referrals to our program.
Specific demographics of DMAB youth are as follows:
Jacksonville children ages five to 18 who qualify for free and reduced lunch.
- 90% Black, 7% Latino, 3% Caucasian
- 87% are living below the Federal Poverty Level (FPL)
- 47% male; 53% female
