Providing a thorough foundation for future success!

By Nia Bradberry

For years, I have given money to charitable organizations without really knowing what it was being used for or the impact it was having. Recently, I decided that instead of just giving of my money, I would give of my time and started to look for a worthwhile cause in my community. That’s when I discovered Don’t Miss A Beat, Inc. (DMAB), a non-profit organization that brings music, arts, and academic enrichment together to inspire and enlighten the children of Duval County in Jacksonville, Florida.

Recognizing the devastating effects of a lack of education, the DMAB organization has implemented high quality youth development programs. These stimulating programs, offered in collaboration with local school districts and other organizations, provide a variety of developmental support tools for students and their families.

The program is designed to provide at-risk youth the opportunity to explore and discover their natural gifts and talents while incorporating them with their vocational dreams. The goal of their programs is to give back to the community in positive, lasting ways.

I was so excited about the possibility of giving back to my community and providing children with a more stable, brighter future, that I joined DMAB as a volunteer board member in July. As a member of the board, I can use my learning development and project management skills to help get the word out about this wonderful organization and the impact it is having on the community.
During this season of giving, I was recently involved with the Holiday Musicale and Toy Drive organized by DMAB.

The Holiday Musicale, which included a live band and a play written especially for this event, featured our own DMAB students and renowned professional guest artists. The evening ended with a toy distribution in which every child in attendance received a toy for the holiday season.
